A vote recount of the commissioner seat with Willacy County Precinct 3 was held Tuesday, resulting in a difference of one more vote in favor of the candidate challenging the incumbent.

After the two-hour manual recount inside the county’s elections administrator office, Emilio Vera Jr. gained one vote for a total of 325 votes, but Commissioner Fred Serrato held his total of 348 votes.

The recount was held after Vera requested it because he came in within 24 votes of Serrato.

Jaime Serna, the elections administrator, said the manual recount took two hours from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Both candidates said they were pleased with the result of the recount and went on with their business.

In an unrelated item, the Willacy County Commissioners’ Court scheduled a special meeting today to canvass the votes of the May 29 Democratic and Republican primaries.

The meeting was set to start to at 10 a.m. in the commissioners’ courtroom at 576 W. Main St
