Reader questions big trucks driving on Hidalgo Ave.

Dear Editor,

I would like to ask why the city allows big trucks to drive through our main street, that’s Hidalgo. They can barely pass by the other cars. I expect to see a terrible collision each time each I meet one. There is a North and South truck route they could use, as I have seen them.

Thank you,

Vicki Shewmaker,

Raymondville, TX

- - - Mrs. Shewmaker,

You raise an interesting question. It may be that because Hidalgo Ave. is also State Hwy. 186, it is under the jurisdiction of the Texas Dept. of Transportation.

In any case we are long overdue for an 18-wheeler to run over a car in downtown Raymondville with fatalities. Big trucks should be ordered to bypass the downtown area, signs to that effect posted and serious fines for vilations should be levied.

Why wait until a tragedy happens?

The Editor
