DOROTHY BILBY DUDERSTADT

RAYMONDVILLE - Dorothy Bilby Duderstadt, 86 of Raymondville, TX, returned to the Lord our Father on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at her residence.

She was born on April 2, 1927 in Amarillo, TX, daughter of Neal and Viola ( Hill) Bilby.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, A.J. Duderstadt; sisters, Marynell Thomas and Mavis Sargent.

She is survived by her daughter Celia Grote of Fredricksberg; granddaughter, Julie Sawtelle; grandsons, Coty (Angelina) and Scott (Melissa); sisters, Shirley (Ralph) Giles of Heishell, TN, Patricia (Jack) Ray of Cisco, TX, Ann (Bob) Smith of Runaway Bay, TX; brothers-in-law, Don Sarget of Houston, and Lonnie Duderstadt of Boling, TX; sister-inlaw, Francis Hartman; nine greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy graduated from Dallas High School and attended Methodist Hospital of Dallas, School of Nursing where she graduated in 1949. In 1950 she married her husband, A. J. Duderstadt, who preceded her in death in 2006. She was a long time member of Phi Beta Phi Soriety. She went to work for Dr. Wayne Baden in Raymondville and in the delivery room at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. She retired from the Raymondville School District after 35 years as the school nurse.

Dorothy was a loving, caring, person. She always tried to help the children she was involved with at school by obtaining basic necessities such as glasses, clothes and shoes. In 2006 she was voted Woman of the Year. She was also selected as School Nurse of the Year and was an active member of the PEO and the Sewing Club.

Visitation was held on October 27, 28, and 29th, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at Duddlesten Funeral Home, 604 W. Hidalgo, Raymondville. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Raymondville. Visitation continued in Yorktown, TX at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Wednesday, October 30 from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. with interment following at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Yorktown.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were: Gene “Scooter” McGee, Edward Willis, John Buffo, Pedro Tanguma, George Reoh and Jack Ray.

Honorary Pallbearer was Kurt Hartman, Jr.

The family wishes to express thanks to Odyssey Hospice nursing staff for all their love and care; Dorothy’s caregivers, Belida, Laura, Viola and Gloria.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Duddlesten Funeral Home.
