PASADENA/SANTA MONICA, TX- Jose “Joe” Abundio Garcia, 88, entered into eternal rest on October 29, 2016, at Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena, Texas surrounded by his family.

Joe was born on November 1, 1927, at Tres Norias Ranch in Santa Monica, TX, to Abundio M. Garcia & Refugia L. Garcia. He attended Lyford High School. He was a member of the football team, and then joined the band and played the clarinet. He enlisted in the Navy January 16, 1945. He served on vessels NTC San Diego California; FPO San Francisco, California and USS Hermitage (AP 54). He was in the Asiatic Pacific American area and received a Victory Medal. He was a gunner’s mate and worked in the engine room as a mechanic. He was honorably discharged August 19, 1946. He farmed at Tres Norias Ranch then traveled around Texas working in the construction industry. He made his home in Pasadena, TX for over 46 years. He retired from Mobil Mining and Minerals Company after 33 plus years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0345. He loved cooking, growing tomatoes in his garden, watching football and enjoying spending time with his friends. He was always lending a helping hand to those in need.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ivie Jeane Garcia, his daughter Rita Young, brothers, Fidel, Ismael, Tomas, Manuel, Eleazar, Juan and Miguel Garcia; his sisters-in-law Judy, Ofelia, and Gloria Garcia, and his brother-inlaw, Odis Powell.

He is survived by daughters Teresa (Pete) Arguelles of Deer Park, TX, and Sylvia (James) Williams of Austin, TX and step-daughters Linda (Willy) Franklin of Hitchcock, TX, Rita (Randy) McLain of Dayton, TX, Rhonda (Robert) Murrell of Deer Park, TX, Brenda (Mike) Lucas of Sante Fe, TX, Shelia (Billy) Webel of El Campo, TX; brothers Enrique (Amelia) Garcia, Pasadena, TX, Ernesto (Oralia) and Alfredo (Merida) Garcia, Santa Monica, TX, and sister, Herlinda (Agustin) Alfonso, League City, TX; sistersin law Vera Garcia, Austin, TX, Delia Garcia, Harlingen, TX, Emma C. Garcia, Santa Monica, TX, Estelle Leary, Spring, TX, and brother-inlaw Gerald (Joyce) Miller, Jasper, TX and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Blessing Service ONLY will be provided by Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. for Joe and his wife Ivie Jeane at their final resting place, Tres Norias Ranch Cemetery in Santa Monica, TX along with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post #390.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the caring hands of Good Shepherd Funeral Home. 1157 W. Hidalgo Raymondville, TX.
