LYFORD HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY TENNIS PLAYERS ADVANCE TO REGIONALS -The Varsity and JV tennis teams competed at the District Tennis Tournament this past weekend. Both teams came away with district championships. In the varsity division, Number 1 seed Nicholas Martinez won the boys singles division, Santiago McIntosh placed 3rd in boys singles, Joe Morales and Thomas Gomez - 1st boys doubles, Rudy Rodriguez and Jonathan Rodriguez - 2nd boys doubles, Wendy Cepeda - 2nd girls singles, Marialy Salinas - 3rd girls singles, Anastasia Vasquez and Natalie Guzman - 1st girls doubles, Irene Hernandez and Aaliyah Yameogo - 2nd girls doubles, John Saenz and Sara Gudino -1st mixed doubles, Christopher Bannwarth and Amanda Guzman - 2nd mixed doubles. In the JV division, Christian Alaniz - 2nd boys singles, Daniel Vasquez and Tristan Rocha - 1st boys doubles, Nicholas Hernandez and Donavuan Salazar - 2nd boys doubles, Hannah Garza and Alaina Robles - 1st girls doubles, Cassie Amaya and Cassandra Frias -2nd girls doubles, Jackie Santillana and Benilde Adriano - 3rd girls doubles. First and second place in the varsity division will move on to the regional tennis tournament at Texas State University on April 17th and 18th in San Marcos, TX. LYFORD HIGH SCHOOL’S ONE ACT TEAM ADVANCED TO BI-DISTRICT -This year the Lyford High School’s One Act Play cast and crew did a phenomenal job performing the play, Small Actors by Stephen Gregg! On Monday, March 20th, they competed at the 32-3A District One Act Play competition in Edinburg, TX, and advanced to the Bi-District competition held in Falfurrias, TX. The following team members were awarded for their outstanding contributions to the team, Best Tech - Linda Saldivar, Honorable Mention - Lucky Chapa and Keila Anzaldua, and All Star Cast - Carly Ramos and Jacob Martinez. The cast and crew ranked as Bi-District Alternate play and the following received individual awards at the Bi-District competition, Best Tech, Miguel Cazares, Honorable Mention, Lucky Chapa, and All Star Cast, Jacob Martinez and Carly Ramos. LYFORD MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM COMPLETE GARDEN PROGRAM - The Lyford Middle School After School Program Garden Club completed a 10-week garden curriculum this spring semester and earned a certificate of completion. The instructors provided by Texas A&M AgriLife and the 21st Century ACE Program, helped students grow through an interdisciplinary program combining academic achievement, gardening, nutrient-dense food experiences, physical and school engagement. The students also built raised beds and planted a variety of vegetables which they will monitor over the next few weeks.
