The 7th and 8th grade boys’ and girls’ teams competed at their district meet last Saturday in Port Isabel. Top performers include:

7th boys: Dominic Gonzales 1st 2400 run, 2nd 4x100 relay, 3rd mile relay; Gerson Balchac 1st 4x200 relay, 2nd 110 hurdles, 2nd 300 hurdles; Hipolito Ruiz 1st 4x200 relay, 2nd 4x100 relay, 3rd mile relay; Franklin Brooks 1st 4x200 relay, 2nd 4x100 relay, 3rd mile relay; Jayson Cantu 1st Shot Put; Jayden Garza 3rd 2400 run.

8th boys: Zaraivion Armendarez 1st 200 run, 1st mile relay, 2nd 4x100 relay; Devin Cabrera 1st mile relay, 1st 4x200 relay, 2nd 4x200 relay; Sam Gomez 1st 4x200 relay, 1st 4x200 relay, 2nd 4x100 relay; Arturo Sayas 1st 4x200 relay, Michael Alvear 1st 4x200 relay; Jaden Brooks 2nd Shot Put; Derrick Ramirez 2nd 4x100 relay.

Both the baseball and softball teams return to action this Thursday versus Santa Rosa. Raymondville will travel to Warrior Country. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM in both games.

Student News

The 2017-18 Cheer Squad was selected last Friday in a tryout completion held at the MGMS gym. Selected to the squad were:

8th grade: Dianasty Cantu (captain),

Caitlyn Brooks, Sacred Rivera, Cat Chavez, Marlyssa Mendez, Alyssa Najera, and Danae Hernandez.

7th grade: Klarissa Cruz (co-captain), Jacinda Salazar, Adriana Sanchez, Madison Flores, Jolie Dominguez, Emily Paz, and Tea Anderson.

All students at MGMS will receive progress reports this Wednesday to help parents and students monitor academic progress for the 5th Six Weeks.
