I never thought I'd see the day!
By Larry G. Spence

The title for this week's column is from conversations I've been in of late, and when we start talking about the state of the world, and our country in particular. These are the words I keep hearing uttered by people from all walks of life, "I never thought I would see the day, here in America, when things would be like they are now." That's what happens when our morality starts to erode, and it's been eroding for some time. God's Word says in Second Timothy 3:1-5, "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without selfcontrol, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying it's power." Did I leave anything out? Remember, these are not my words, but what was written long ago about these times.

All own trouble started back around 1963 when our Supreme Court prohibited those in charge of our schools from organizing or leading Bible reading or prayer exercises in schools. We have witnessed how society has gone downhill. Then in 1973 the same Supreme Court legalized abortion which has resulted in well over 58 million babies being legally murdered. The last figures I could find says about one million babies a year is about the rate we are going these days. Does that make you squirm a little, if not try these figures. In January of 2016 the internet’s largest online pornography site released its annual statistics. On just this one website in just one year-2015-consumers watched 4,392,486,580 hours of pornography. If you convert those hours into years, it means those people collectively spent more than 500,000 years watching porn. On this one site alone in 2015, people watched 87,849,731,608 X-rated videos. Over 87 billion! That's twelve videos for every man, woman, boy and girl on the planet!

That's just the tip of the iceberg. It is estimated that over a quarter of internet pornography is child related. According to CNN the US is home to more commercial child porn websites than any other place on earth. You add to this the fact we have more people in prisons than any other country, and now some peopie want to open our borders and let anyone come in. It paints a bad picture but we can't stick our head in the sand and deny these problems are here. Also we don't just want to give up and say there's nothing we can do. Nor do we want to say, “Well, if the end is near, then let's just party until the cows come home.” There is hope, not in Hollywood, not with sports stars, but with people who believe in the principals upon which this country was founded. Hope in the one that was here in the beginning. Have a great week, stay safe and stay blessed!
