Man turns violent at Whataburger

Bobby Battaglia Bobby Battaglia Raymondville police arrested a local man for an alleged incident at the Whataburger restaurant on Hidalgo Avenue near the I- 69E overpass about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Bobby Battaglia, who had just been released from the county jail after about three months, was charged with criminal mischief, with $2,500 to $30,000 in property damage, and for public intoxication, Police Chief Uvaldo Zamora said.

Battaglia allegedly threw a chair at a cash register, knocking it off a counter, and dumped out a large metal container of iced tea.

Restaurant patrons restrained Battaglia until police arrived.

Willacy County Sheriff Larry Spence said a member of his church was present when the incident occurred. Battaglia has frequently been in trouble with the law, the sheriff said.
