Businessman, community volunteer succumbs to injuries from accident


Fred Silva Fred Silva Well- known local car salesman and public servant Fred Silva has died from injuries suffered in an Aug. 10 rollover accident north of Raymondville.

In a career of about 30 years in the automotive sales field, Silva devoted much of his spare time to serving the community, said his widow, Betty.

Fred Silva had served Raymondville and Willacy County as a firefighter, ambulance driver for Willacy County EMS, a volunteer firefighter, an ambulance driver for Willacy County EMS, a volunteer for Willacy County REACT, a Raymondville Police Department volunteer and as a Willacy County reserve sheriff ’s deputy.

Born on La Rosita Ranch east of Lyford, he was married to Betty 51 years. They had two sons. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Most recently, he was a car salesman for Cardenas Ford. He started in the business in 1967 as a salesman for Welch Motors but had also worked for Valley Auto Mall, Payne Dealer Group, Gateway Motors, Lackey Chevrolet, Kellogg Motors, Gillman and Rodriguez Ford.

“He was very active in the community,” Betty Silva said. “He liked to serve the county.”
