LUCILA SOLIS DE LA GARZA

RAYMONDVILLE, TX- January 31, 2018, Lucila Solis de la Garza went to be with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. When she left her earthly body, she was surrounded by her loving husband of 70 years, Robert de la Garza, and many of her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.

Lucila was born on October 21, 1929 to the late Ricardo and Francisca Solis in Brownsville, Texas. Seventeen years later, she was married to her husband and love of her life, Robert “Bobby” de la Garza, and moved into the house they built. She succeeded in every career endeavor she faced and used her Godgiven skills and tech-savvy to do so. The businesses she worked for were First National Bank, Raymondville School District and San Perlita School District.

There was a tangible love Lucila had for her family and friends -a love that many felt even upon first meeting her. Those who knew her saw the generosity, thoughtfulness and hospitality she poured out daily. It came so naturally to her to put others above herself -just as the Lord wants us all to. She happily shared her handmade quilts, participated in countless fundraisers and volunteered at hospitals for many years. She and Bobby were blessed to travel the world after a well-planned retirement. Oh, the stories she would tell!

Lucila is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Ricardo, Arnoldo, Catarina and Magdalena Solis, and grandchildren Angela Urbina and Matthew Scott de la Garza. She is survived by her loving husband Bobby, her children Bobby (Cindy) de la Garza, Jr., Elva (Fred) Villarreal, Rene de la Garza, Drusilla (Carlos) Urbina, 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and her sisters Noemi Garcia and Esperanza Lopez.
