Lyford CISD 2018 Veterans Day Ceremony

Lyford CISD will be cele brating its 30th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, November 9. The ceremony will be held at Bulldog Stadium at 9:30 am. A patriotic prelude to the ceremony will begin at approximately 9:10 am.

The 2018 ceremony marks 30 consecutive years of honoring the veterans.

While the annual ceremony honors all military veterans, a special tribute during this year ’s ceremony will be paid to seven surviving World War II veterans from the Willacy County area with a medal pinning ceremony presented by a special command group of the five branches of the United States military.

Members to be honored will be Amparo L. Garza, United States Army; Robert De la Garza, United States Navy; Juan C. Cantu, United States Army; Guadalupe Espinoza, United States Air Force; Oscar Cavazos, United States Army; Eduardo C. (Lalo) Gomez, United States Army; and Ascencion Mata, United States Army.


Ascencio Mata U.S. Army WWII Ascencio Mata U.S. Army WWII The Veterans Day Ceremony will also honor the “ Gold Star” families of four local soldiers who lost their lives defending freedom. The fallen patriots to be honored include United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Anthony Aguirre, United States Army SSGT Hector Leija, United States Army Corporal Israel J. Cisneros, and United States Army PFC Ramiro R. Cisneros.

Special performances by the Lyford Bulldog Band, the Lyford Elementary Choir, the Brownsville Hanna Army JROTC, the Texas A& M University Kingsville Javelina Battalion Army ROTC, and the Sky Dive South Padre Skydivers are scheduled.

Opening and closing remarks will be delivered by Lyford CISD Superintendent, Eduardo Infante. The ceremony will be narrated by Lyford High School students. The student Master of Ceremonies will be Lyford High School student, Logan Thomas. Captain Chase A. McLean, United States Marine Corps (Retired) will be the keynote speaker.

A reception will follow the ceremony for the honorees and veterans at the Lyford CISD Veterans Gymnasium.
