THE GRAND MARSHALLS FOR THE 2018 RAYMONDVILLE CHRISTMAS PARADE are Emilio and Elma Chavez, both natives of Willacy County. They are both graduates of Raymondville and were high school sweethearts. They have been married 43 years and have three children and eight grandchildren. Emilio has been retired from the USDA Agriculture Research Service since 2012 after being employed for twenty years. After retirement, Emilio has begun a disking and shredding business serving local needs. Emilio has enjoyed being one of the few outriders still using horses for quail hunting at the same hunting camp for over 25 years. In earlier years, Emilio served on the Willacy County Young Farmers and the Ropers Riders youth organization that continues today to assist the youth with equine and rodeo events.

Elma served as the Executive Director of the Raymondville Chamber of Commerce, December 2000 through March 2018, and served on the Chamber board five years prior to that. She was recognized as an inductee of the Borderfest Walk of Fame in 2011, Woman of the Year for 2000 and 2002, and was recognized for her service as a Chamber director in 2014 by the House of Representatives and the Senate at the state capitol. She served on countless boards and organizations throughout her career with the Chamber.

In February 2018, Elma and Emilio purchased Bootique Baskets & Gifts, an apparel and jewelry boutique. Elma retired from the Chamber and the Chavez family now enjoys servicing their community through their business.
