Holiday events begin this week

Willacy County will kick off the holiday season tomorrow night with the Raymondville Christmas tree lighting ceremony, including music and fellowship at 6 p.m. in the downtown pocket park.

The downtown business district was spruced up this year with the completion of the brick paver sidewalk project and other cosmetic touches.

The annual Raymondville Chamber of Commerce event always attracts a good crowd and city efforts to restore the traditional shopping district are starting to show results.

Music provided by the Raymondville Independent School District will set the stage for Santa Claus’ visits to area homes later this month.

On Friday, Dec. 7, the annual Raymondville Christmas parade will proceed through the downtown area, starting at 6 p.m.

Floats, including decorated tractor-trailer rigs, bands, marchers and the wail of sirens on fire trucks and other emergency vehicles will fill the air.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, the 11th Annual Lyford Community

Christmas Festival will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the downtown area.

Los Rukos will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Conjunto Imprezzion, from 7:30 p.m.to 10 pm.

A car show will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Call 956- 219-4652 for more information.

The parade starts at 6 p.m. with cash prizes for best floats. A raffle will be held with prizes of $400, $200 and $100. Tickets cost $5 each.

Music, food and fun will be available for the whole family.
