Raymondville school investigating allegation of abusive elementary school teacher

Staff Writer

Raymondville school district officials are investigating an allegation of an abusive elementary school teacher.

Superintendent of Schools Stetson Roane issued a brief statement on the matter Friday.

Raymondville ISD received a parent complaint about an elementary school teacher, and there is an open investigation into that complaint,” Roane said. “Because this is a personnel matter and it involves a minor, the district is unable to provide further comment at this time.”

The school district referred the Raymondville Chronicle to Tony Connors, the teacher’s lawyer.

Connors questioned the reason for the newspaper getting involved in the issue, stating the school district is the proper agency to investigate such claims.

His client is a long-time teacher with an impeccable record, Connors said.

“That is not true,” he said of allegations of abusive treatment of any child by his client.

“My client denies that anything wrong has occurred,” he said. “There have been no charges, no disciplinary action (against the teacher).”

The Chronicle received a tip that the teacher in question works at L.C. Smith Elementary but school district officials would not provide any information other than the above statement.
